How far from the kerb should I park - Parrallel Park Help and Advice

How far from the kerb should I parallel park?

You should try to keep your vehicle somewhere up to a tyre's width (approx 6 inches) from the kerb.

Don't' park against the kerb as this can damage the tyre 'walls' (edges).

Don't park too far away because your vehicle will become a hazard to other road users.

You will need to use your judgement on this. Look around when you are parallel - would you be happy to leave your car this distance from the kerb over night?

If not - move your vehicle backwards and/or forwards until you are happy with the distance.

Remember - safety is the most important part of all the manoeuvres. Do your observations and control the car slowly/smoothly.
