What happens if a car stops behind me on the left reverse?

This can happen if a vehicle wants to exit the side road you are reversing into. If it does - put your foot on the brake and stop the car. Look at the driver and ask yourself what they are going to do next.

Many drivers will realise what you are doing and drive around you. In this case, keep your foot on the brake until they have passed your vehicle, do your observations again and continue.

Some drivers won't drive around you because it is not safe or there may not be room. If the other vehicle waits behind you - put your car into 1st gear, do your observations, signal right (to show that you are moving away from the kerb), move off and then signal left (to show that you are turning left at the junction). When it's safe - move back to the position you started the left reverse from, wait for the other vehicle to move off and start the manoeuvre again.

Why do we have to move out of the way? Because we are moving in the opposite direction to the flow of traffic - therefore, we must give way to vehicles travelling in the correct direction.
